Source: Le Soleil (Canada), 04/11/03

The Bloc Pot candidate for Tascherau, Benjamin Kasapoglu, says he was abused by a Quebec City police officer Monday night. The politician prepared a complaint, which he will file with the Comité de déontologie policière (police complaints commission) Friday, for abuse of power and attack on democracy.

Kasapoglu explains that he was distributing flyers on Rue de la Couronne, when a had a disagreement with a police officer. According to Kasapoglu, the officer "took him by the collar," threw him on the hood of a car, put him in shackles and pushed him into a police car.

The disagreement began when he gave a flyer to the police officer, Kasapoglu says. (It should be noted that the Bloc Pot calls for the legalization of marijuana.) The candidate in next Monday's election was given a ticket for public disorder. With costs, the bill amounts to a $255 fine, which he intends to fight in Municipal Court. Only at this time, when evidence is given, will the police version be known.
