Yorkton Woman Upset After RCMP Pot Bust - Linda Maddaford uses marijuana as medicine
By: Benson McCulloch, NEWStalk980.com (Online), 08-12-09

Depending on your point of view, marijuana is either considered a relatively benign recreational substance or a harmful drug.

But to some, marijuana is medicine.

Linda Maddaford fits into the latter catagory. The Yorkton woman is now wondering what to do after RCMP officers raided her home, and slapped the disabled woman with drug charges.

In 2005, Maddaford was given a license to grow medical marijuana to ease a condition known as mechanical back pain.

But in July of last year, that license expired.

Maddaford, 55, was left searching for a specialist to sign her paperwork after her doctor retired. Before she could fine one who would sign off on the controversial drug, her Yorkton home was raided by RCMP officers on August 5.

The officers seized marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and growing equipment.

An RCMP news release doesn't specify what she is charged with only saying its for "offences under the controlled drugs and substances act".

The RCMP have declined to comment on the case since it is presently before the courts.

Maddaford makes her first court appearance September 14.
