Mail order marijuana
By: Arthur Williams, Prince George Free Press (CN BC), 08-21-09

A package of drugs headed to Northern B.C. was intercepted, Friday, thanks to a keen nose at a local courier company.

A worker at the courier company detected an odour of marijuana on a package on route between the Lower Mainland and it's final destination in Northern B.C.

The package was a letter-sized courier pouch. Inside the pouch was a container holding two sealed plastic bags, Const. Jamie Fisher said.

Inside those bags was another container holding two more sealed plastic bags. Inside those bags was about one ounce (28g) of marijuana and a number of unidentified pills, Fisher said.

"It was double containered and quadruple bagged and it still smelled... like a 1970s disco party," Fisher said. "That is enough for possession for the purpose of trafficking (charges). In addition it's a criminal offense to use mail to transport an illegal substance."

The sender and recipient's personal information was registered with the courier company, Fisher said.

"They are going to find out we have (the package) shortly," he said. "It's going to be taken as information against the sender."
