ST. STEPHEN - A young man caught with eight baggies of marijuana was given a
conditional discharge this week.
Corey Lee Beach, 21, of St. Stephen told police they were birthday gifts. Beach had pleaded guilty to possession of 24 grams of marijuana last Oct. 21. The Crown dropped a charge of possession of OxyContin.
Beach was was ordered to serve six months supervised probation, do 40 hours of community service and donate $500 to the Charlotte County Boys & Girls Club.
The court heard that on the day in question police received a call from a complainant who said a yellow truck with a loud muffler was driving around the Ganong Nature Park. Beach was found in the yellow truck and smelled of marijuana. Thorn said police found eight bags with three grams of marijuana in each.
During sentencing, Judge David Walker said having quite of bit of drugs in
baggies is suspicious. Since the offence was around or near Beach's birthday,
Walker accepted that they were gifts.
