A Wilno marijuana activist hopes Canadian police officers will take the
time to educate themselves about marijuana exemption laws now.
This after authorities dropped the criminal case that was launched against him.
Rick Reimer said authorities withdrew a charge of being intoxicated in a public place during a court appearance last week in Annapolis Royal, N.S.
The former Pembroke lawyer was arrested and charged when he was attending the Atlantic Hemp Fest in late July.
Mr. Reimer, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, has a medical exemption from Health Canada to use marijuana to alleviate the symptoms of his disease. He was smoking a marijuana cigarette when he asked an RCMP officer to check in with security when entering the festival grounds.
The former lawyer soon found himself under arrest. He spent the night in a jail cell before being released the next morning.
