Pot goes south, cops say

A Vaughan marijuana warehouse bust has confirmed police theories that most of the GTA's massive homegrown dope crop is heading south of the border, police said yesterday.

"Inside the house we found $295,000 US, $125,000 Cdn, 6,000 Ecstasy pills and 100 pounds of weed packaged and ready to go," said Det. Mike Klimm of York Region police drug squad.

"What's significant is all that U.S. currency. It leads me to believe it's going to the States and the proof is all that U.S. and Canadian currency.

"That's a lot of American currency," Klimm said.

The bust happened March 20, but police held onto the details while they checked out other leads, they said.

Originally, police believed the home on Dante Crt., near Langstaff and Weston Rds., was just another marijuana grow house, one of 41 they busted during a two-month blitz.

But instead of the typical racks of lights and rows of plants, cops discovered bags of dried marijuana ready for sale and cash.
