South Simcoe Police laid their first drug-impaired driving charge yesterday.
A new law came into effect July 2 giving police more powers to investigate whether a suspect driver is impaired by drugs.
Specially-trained officers, known as drug recognition experts, can now conduct tests to determine if the charge is appropriate.
Police caught the suspect while conducting a RIDE check in Bond Head.
Police took the man to their headquarters in Bradford for testing and subsequently laid the charge.
A Keswick man, 20, is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 21.
South Simcoe Police have two drug recognition experts and three more officers are nearing the completion of their training.
